Wretched Man (Poem)
O foolish heart of mine!
How quickly you are led away,
From His presence sweet & sublime,
To the filthy fashions of this age.
You wallow in the world’s muck & mire,
And forget the joys of holy fire
O foolish tongue of mine!
Instead of proclaiming gospel & grace,
How often you gossip, slander,
Deceive, argue, and complain.
At others, you shoot sharp arrows of condemnation,
While conceitedly praising your own spiritual illumination
Oh foolish mind of mine!
You are filled with worldly ambitions;
With haughtiness, covetousness,
And evil intentions.
Oh my Lord, shine Your examining light!
Open my eyes to the beauty of Your will
Help me to stand in the power of Your might
Take me, break me, shape me until,
Nothing else matters but Your image in my soul.
