A Poem on Complacent Christianity
We have our spiritual programs, concerts, and conferences
We have touted our doctrines
Promoted our denominations, and pushed our preferences
We have booked calendars, busy lives, and countless Bibles
We have bumper stickers about faith, T-Shirts with scripture
And a mass marketed message of the gospel
Yet, there is a steep decline in church attendance
A constant scorn for holy living
And an increase of biblical incompetence
There is confusion over identity
Shamelessness over sin
And a growing carelessness for eternity
Is it that we've sought man's favor above the fullness of the Spirit?
Have we heralded our denominational differences
Rather than proclaim the gospel to all who will hear it?
Do we believe sacrifice is sitting in a pew and giving an occasional tithe?
Is Christ pleased with just once a week lip service?
Was not His call for us to bear our cross and our flesh deny?
We must return to a child-like wonder of God's love
We must worship with humble hearts
And set our affection on things above
We must heed the words of Christ “Go ye into all the world”
Striving to make disciples
And proclaiming the truth that He alone is LORD.
